BASIC FUNCTION: The Director of Health Promotion and Prevention is part of a dynamic team that supports and encourages a student-centered culture focused on learning and student transformation. This position is held by a seasoned leader who brings strategic vision, extensive experience, and a demonstrated ability to guide initiatives, mentor staff, and advance comprehensive health promotion and prevention efforts across the institution. This position advocates for and leads efforts to develop health and wellness practices that promote personal development and student success. The Director of Health Promotion and Prevention engages students, campus leadership and partners in developing campus-wide education, resources, and programming centered on wellness, selfcare, resilience and mindfulness in order to support students in making the most of their college careers. The Director of Health Promotion and Prevention nurtures a culture of wellbeing in all aspects of student life, responding to diverse and changing needs of the student body while demonstrating cultural competence and a commitment to equity, inclusion and to identifying and removing barriers to access. This is a non-clinical position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Utilizes the dimensions of well-being as a guiding framework to shape strategy, programs, and initiatives; integrates holistic wellness principles into planning and assessment, ensuring efforts address the interconnected physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and environmental needs of students. Develop, deliver, and evaluate programs, presentations, and trainings to promote a thriving student population centered around student overall wellness, including but not limited to alcohol and other drug education; sexual assault prevention, awareness, response, and advocacy; healthy relationships, etc. Collaborate with the Dean of Students team to provide follow up support and resources for students who have challenges with academic, physical, mental health, wellness, or their general wellbeing Design and implement training opportunities and programming initiative with resident advisors in conjunction with the Salve Residence Life curriculum Partner with stakeholders and collaborate with other offices across campus (i.e. counseling services/health services, etc.) to support wellness initiatives and participate in university-wide yield programs and events, which may include Open Houses, Connections Day, Admitted Student Day, and New Seahawk Orientation Oversight of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee, and other committees as relevant Management of online learning modules assigned to onboarding students Provide ongoing efforts related to Mental Health First Aid, Title IX, and bystander intervention workshops and/or trainings; offering both passive and in-person programming initiatives Serve in the Professional Staff On-Call rotation, responsible for 24-hour conflict and crisis management for entire on campus residence community Oversee the social media platforms for the Salve wellness account Serve as an active member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT), contributing to divisional strategy, policy development, and decision-making; collaborates with colleagues to align initiatives with institutional priorities, represent health promotion and prevention perspectives, and advance a cohesive, student-centered approach across Student Affairs. Serve as a liaison with colleagues in Athletics, with a particular focus on supporting the health, wellness, and holistic development of student-athletes, as well as with the Office of Safety & Security, Office of Student Engagement, Multicultural Programs, LGBTQIA+ Programs, and Sodexo, as appropriate, to coordinate and enhance wellness-related programs, resources, and initiatives. Serve as a liaison to community/local agencies that support prevention efforts (i.e. Newport and Middletown Prevention Coalitions, etc.) Identify, research, and actively pursue grant funding opportunities aligned with institutional/division priorities; monitor funding announcements, develop and maintain a grant pipeline, and collaborate with campus partners to assess feasibility and support proposal development. Direct grant activities, including tracking deadlines, ensuring compliance with funder requirements, monitoring budgets and expenditures, coordinating reporting, and maintaining accurate records while collaborating with grant partners to support successful grant implementation. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As assigned ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Standard office conditions Job Requirements: Required: Bachelor’s degree required. A demonstrated understanding of program evaluation and assessment. Familiarity with current technology including use of social media; evidence of superior interpersonal and communication skills and creating a student-centered culture that supports high standards of excellence for all members of the campus community will be important considerations in the Dean of Students team. Preferred: A Master’s degree in college student personnel administration, higher education administration, counseling, social work, public health, sports psychology or a similar field with approximately 3-5 years of leadership experience in student affairs, health education/promotion, health communication, public health or a closely related functional area is preferred. Experience with crisis management A strong record of student advocacy and productive and collaborative working relationships across campus Experience with seeking grant opportunities and grant management. The successful candidate will also possess an understanding of and commitment to Salve Regina’s Mercy, Catholic tradition and mission.
