Overview We are seeking Part-Time Group Instructors with experience in Yoga, Pilates, Aqua classes, Beginner level Spin/Cycling and Older Adults (Silver Sneakers). This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for members participating in fitness classes. Responsibilities Design and deliver safe, fun, dynamic, and effective group exercise classes which may include various types of aerobic exercises, core training, stretching, and strength training exercises for individuals at various levels of fitness. Provide outstanding hospitality to all members and guests. Demonstrate a commitment to the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Serve as a healthy lifestyle role model. Arrive prior to class start time to allow time to greet all participants and help acclimate new participants. Try to learn/use each participant’s name and include a “Mission Moment” during the class. Start each class with an introduction. Wear the designated shirt provided for you. Responsible for participant safety – inspect the floors, equipment, and supplies, and notify the supervisor of any equipment in need of repair and/or need for more/updated equipment. Be responsible for setting up and putting all equipment away. Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA. Modify classes and routines according to participants’ fitness levels/abilities as needed. Use appropriate music at a sound level set by the supervisor. Maintain accurate attendance records (rosters). Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings. Have a thorough knowledge of YMCA emergency procedures and take appropriate action in emergency situations. It is your responsibility to secure a substitute instructor if you are unable to teach your class. Qualifications: Prefer Instructor to have basic knowledge in anatomy, exercise physiology and biomechanics High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience leading fitness classes. Current adult CPR/First Aid and AED certifications or have the ability to acquire the certification within first 60 days of employment. Have and maintain a nationally recognized Group Exercise certification: ACE, ACSM, AFAA, AEA, NASM, NETA or YMCA. Be personable, enthusiastic, responsible and professional with excellent customer service and hospitality skills. Have the ability to establish positive relationships with staff and members within the community of the YMCA. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting at least 50lbs. Ability to relate to and work with people of diverse backgrounds. Must be available to work flexible hours, including day times, evenings, and/or weekends. Must be able to communicate concisely and effectively while projecting voice across a distance in a loud environment, while performing the workout. Follow all YMCA standards, know, understand and follow all policies and chain of command.
